چکیده

Examination of thousands of fluid inclusion gas analyses has led us to question some working hypotheses associated with interpretations of N2/Ar ratios in geothermal volatiles. Fluid inclusion gas analyses, some confirmed by analyses of present fluids, indicate that geothermal fluids have N2 and Ar concentrations about 10 times greater than in air saturated water. Also, high N2/Ar ratios are associated with lower concentrations of Ar, rather than increased N2 in all geothermal systems we have studied. These observations contradict commonly held ideas about how geothermal systems operate and there are no apparent explanations. We introduce a CO2/CH4 vs. N2/Ar diagram. It illustrates fluid sources and processes better than a ternary diagram, and defines fluid compositions that have organic nitrogen.

Low-energy ionic collisions at molecular solids.

ion mechanism, discussed in section 1.1.2. Figure 27 illustrates the reactive scattering mechanism with four representative snapshots of a Cs scattering trajectory in a classical MD simulation. The abstraction reaction is driven by the ion−dipole attraction force between the Cs ion and an adsorbate molecule. The impinging projectile first releases part of its initial energy to the surface (Figu...

The ocean carbon sink -- impacts, vulnerabilities, and challenges

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is, next to water vapour, considered to be the most important natural greenhouse gas on Earth. Rapidly rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations caused by human actions such as fossil fuel burning, land-use change or cement production over the past 250 years have given cause for concern that changes in Earth’s climate system may progress at a much faster pace and larger extent ...

Gains from diversification on convex combinations: A majorization and stochastic dominance approach

By incorporating both majorization theory and stochastic dominance theory, this paper presents a general theory and a unifying framework for determining the diversification preferences of risk-averse investors and conditions under which they would unanimously judge a particular asset to be superior. In particular, we develop a theory for comparing the preferences of different convex combination...

Improved immunogenicity of tetanus toxoid by Brucella abortus S19 LPS adjuvant.

BACKGROUND Adjuvants are used to increase the immunogenicity of new generation vaccines, especially those based on recombinant proteins. Despite immunostimulatory properties, the use of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as an adjuvant has been hampered due to its toxicity and pyrogenicity. Brucella abortus LPS is less toxic and has no pyrogenic properties compared to LPS from other gram negati...

Steady electrodiffusion in hydrogel-colloid composites: macroscale properties from microscale electrokinetics.

A rigorous microscale electrokinetic model for hydrogel-colloid composites is adopted to compute macroscale profiles of electrolyte concentration, electrostatic potential, and hydrostatic pressure across membranes that separate electrolytes with different concentrations. The membranes are uncharged polymeric hydrogels in which charged spherical colloidal particles are immobilized and randomly d...
